Bangkok Execution released their debut single, Scum of the Nation, last month. The song is available in two different versions, English and Thai. The English title is perhaps inspired by the notorious propaganda song หนักแผ่นดิน, whose title roughly translates as ‘scum of the earth’. Bangkok Execution’s song aims that insult back at those who have previously deployed it against left-wing students.
The song’s Thai title, ขอนิ้วกลาง, translates as ‘show the middle finger’, the band’s more contemptuous version of the three-finger salute used by recent student protest groups. Both versions of the song have music videos featuring footage of riot police confronting student protesters.
