Teerawat Mulvilai has often used props with political subtexts in his powerful and provocative dance performances. His latest work, Dialogue with a Flower-Crowned Man of Thorns, was performed yesterday and today at Bangkok Art and Culture Centre.

Teerawat interacts with red oil drums on stage — as he did in a previous performance, Red Tank (ถังแดง) — in an unspoken reference to the anti-communist purge in the 1970s. Dialogue with a Flower-Crowned Man of Thorns also refers to more recent political unrest, the 2020–2021 student protests, with plastic barricades that make loud thuds as they are pushed over.
