Khon Kaen Manifesto 2
Aesthetics of Resistance, Aesthetic Revolutions

Khon Kaen Manifesto 2

The second Khon Kaen Manifesto (ขอนแก่น แมนิเฟสโต้) group exhibition opened today at various locations around Khon Kaen, and runs until 20th December. This year’s theme is Aesthetics of Resistance, Aesthetic Revolutions. One of the venues is a former brothel in the city’s red-light district (Theparak Road, soi 5), where Kullathida Krajangkul’s installation เพราะเสร็จ จึงเจริญ is on show.

Kullathida collected semen from ten donors, and used it to paint a map of the city onto a bedsheet, with a pin marking the brothel’s location. The installation’s title translates as ‘because it’s finished, it’s prosperous’, a reference to the local economic boost provided by prostitution (and a pun on ‘finishing’ in a sexual sense).

Another Thai artist, Kosit Juntaratip, has also used semen in his work. His painting Copulate with Love is labelled as “Ejaculation on canvas (Kosit’s spermatozoa)” at MAIIAM in Chiang Mai.
