Adult Material, a new contemporary art and design gallery in Bangkok, opens for its inaugural exhibition today. Against the Grain runs until 15th August, and includes the light sculpture Cunty Country by Oat Montien.
Cunty Country, which was completed only a few days before the exhibition opened, is a continuation of the theme of Oat’s 2024 solo exhibition Country Home Sheriff: the blending of Oat’s sexual identity with the cowboy accoutrements he inherited from his father. Oat’s father was the landlord of the western-themed Country Home pub, and Cunty Country incorporates part of the pub’s illuminated sign (‘คันทรี’, meaning ‘country’).
