Poetry of Dead, We Are Alone..
How Ghosts Found Us

Poetry of Dead

Pare Patcharapa’s exhibition of new paintings Poetry of Dead, We Are Alone.. How Ghosts Found Us opens today at Cartel Artspace, and runs until 5th December. Highlights include Father, which depicts the red gate from which Choomporn Thummai and Vichai Kasripongsa were hanged by police in Nakhon Pathom on 25th September 1976, after they campaigned against military dictator Thanom Kittikachorn’s return from exile.

Father

The centrepiece is Star Locket, a vast portrait of a young woman asleep. This work’s dimensions are 6.5m by 3m, the same size as the prison cells in which student protest leaders are currently being held, and its title is a metaphor for those held in custody like a jewel in a locket.
