The Greatest Star: Behind the Scenes of Sunset Boulevard was published last year to mark the seventy-fifth anniversary of Billy Wilder’s classic noir melodrama. The book features an essay by Jeffrey Vance, though it’s an appreciation of Sunset Boulevard rather than a production history. This isn’t a making-of book; instead, it reproduces the final shooting script alongside numerous production stills and behind-the-scenes photos.
There have been other books on Wilder’s films, including a Taschen coffee-table book on Some Like It Hot. There are two books on Wilder’s Double Indemnity: From the Moment They Met It Was Murder by Alain Silver and James Ursini, and a BFI Classics study by Richard Schickel.
