พันธมิตรกู้ชาติบทพิสูจน์ความกล้า เสียสละ อหิงสา(‘People’s Alliance for Democracy:proof of courage, sacrifice, and non-violence’)

พันธมิตรกู้ชาติ บทพิสูจน์ความกล้า เสียสละ อหิงสา (‘People’s Alliance for Democracy: proof of courage, sacrifice, and non-violence’) was published in 2009, to mark the first anniversary of the violence that took place on 7th October 2008 during a People’s Alliance for Democracy protest outside the Thai parliament. The book, published by Sondhi Limthongkul’s Manager company, covers the protest in exhaustive detail, though of course it’s far from objective.

The PAD had occupied Government House for three months in 2008, and the Constitutional Court’s disqualification of Samak Sundaravej emboldened Sondhi to escalate his campaign. The PAD began its blockade of parliament on 5th October 2008, and riot police dispersed the demonstrators on the third day of the protest. A protester was killed, and Queen Sirikit presided over her funeral in a public expression of support for the royalist PAD.
