Turkish newspaper cartoonist Musa Kart has been fined $3,500 after Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan filed a lawsuit against him. The charge relates to Kart's cartoon depicting Erdogan's head on a cat's body, published in Cumhuriyet on 5th April last year.

In solidarity with Kart, on 24th February the magazine Penguen printed caricatures of Erdogan as a variety of animals on its front cover. Predictably, Erdogan has also filed a lawsuit against the magazine.
